Pop! Culture Theologians

What started off as us recapping the Season Two of Westworld really flourished into something fun that we've been hearing wonderful feedback on. Season One of the podcast found Marci and I recapping a crazier universe than the one we currently are in: the Purge! We not only able to breakdown both the Purge films and the television show weekly, but we were also able to interview some of our favorite cast members along the way!

While sometimes it was hard to find time to record, it was truly an amazing experience, and one that we are seeing pay off! We learned a lot and that is why we are so excited to announce that we will be back with Season Two of the podcast in January 2019 where we will be recapping.....A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES!

The show, which is currently airing its first season in the UK, will air starting January 17 on the Sundance Channel here in the United States. It has everything we love: witches, vampires, a love story, LGBTQ+ representation, female empowerment, and the list goes on! We hope that you'll join us next year as we recap the show each week! But wait...there's more: Marci and I are going to be releasing little nuggets of pop culture goodness starting this week up and into the Holiday season where we are going to dive into some of our favorite films.

Starting this week, we will be releasing our take on the film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and if you've been listening to the podcast, you know that Marci and I don't ALWAYS agree, so it is bound to be a fun experience. Following the release of that special episode, we will release our review of the new film The Crimes of Grindewald this weekend (and I'm guessing we're going to have a lot to say).

After Thanksgiving, we are going to release our -part review of The Hunger Games movies (I know, you've been waiting to see what team Marci and I are both on. For the record, I'm #TeamGale). Those episodes will be released in December right before the Holidays to give you all something to listen to before Season Two starts on January 17!

The Engaged Gaze

When Sara, Marci, and I first founded the Engaged Gaze, we wanted it to be a site where people, actively involved in both resisting could find a home. We left this term "resisting" broad for a reason that I want to break down a little bit for you here.

While in graduate school, Marci and I had a hard time find a site that would be willing to publish our thoughts on a host of issues, mostly involving pop culture and its role in today's world. So, when we founded the Engaged Gaze, we thought that we were also resisting the academy that refused to allow us, as well as many other scholars, the chance to have their voices heard. We are extremely proud of all the work that has been published, and will continue to be published, on this site moving forward. However, our normal publishing schedule of Tuesday/Thursdays for original content will start to change in the coming months.

We will continue to publish the works of many of our contributors but this will be done weekly, with new episodes of the two podcasts that this site hosts publishing in between those periods.
